WELCOME to the Diplomatic Wing
Bilateral Relations: Fraternal and friendly ties between Malaysia and Pakistan are marked by mutual understanding and cooperation. Pakistan was one of the first countries to recognize and establish diplomatic relations with Malaysia in 1957. Justice Abdul Hamid of Pakistan played a pivotal role in drafting Malaysia’s constitution. Malaysia as a proactive role-player in the UN and as a prominent member of OIC, NAM, ASEAN, APEC and EAS, is an important country in Pakistan’s foreign policy calculus. The two countries have close convergence of views on world affairs that translate into cooperation and support, for each other, in international fora. Malaysia has played a pivotal role in furthering Pakistan’s ‘Vision East Asia Policy’ through its support and guidance, in the context of Pakistan’s Sectoral Dialogue Partnership of ASEAN. Malaysia lent valuable support for Pakistan’s membership of ARF, ACD and ASEM. It supported Pakistan’s reinstatement to the Councils of Commonwealth, in May 2008.
Malaysia and Pakistan have signed a large number of agreements and Memoranda of Understanding, to enhance bilateral cooperation. An important, recent, agreement that came into effect on 1st January, 2008, between the two countries, namely ‘Malaysia-Pakistan Closer Economic Partnership Agreement’, is the first bilateral FTA between OIC member countries.
